It is understood that running a business costs money. It is expected and accepted. But smart business owners are constantly looking for ways to reduce their costs. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) may provide an answer for reducing your phone bill. This is especially good news for business owners who already use the Internet to conduct business.
- What Is Voice Over Internet Protocol?
- Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a process where analog signals are turned into digital signals that can be sent over an Internet connection. This means that you can make long distance calls over your Internet connection without having to pay long distance charges.
- How does VoIP work?
- Voice over Internet Protocol can be done in one of three ways. The first way is by using an ATA, or Analog Telephone Adapter. Using this adapter, you can connect your telephone to your computer. Software is then used to connect your telephone to your Internet connection. This is the most common, and the simplest option. The second option is to use an Internet Protocol telephone, instead of your regular telephone. An IP telephone looks just like a regular phone, but it does not have a regular plug for a phone jack. Instead, it has an Ethernet connector. Using an IP telephone, there is no need to install software, because the software is already installed into the phone itself. The third option is computer to computer calls. This type of VoIP does not require you to have any type of VoIP account, and they are completely free. The software can usually be found for free on the Internet, and you will need a microphone, speakers, a sound card, and a good Internet connection.
- What does VoIP mean for business owners?
- This means that you no longer have to make long distance phone calls. You can simply use your Internet connection to place the calls, free of charge. VoIP software is already available and ready to use. In fact, the major telephone companies in the United States realize that VoIP is going to cost them money in the very near future, so they are scurrying to set up VoIP plans to offer to their customer bases.
VoIP can be used to make local, national and International telephone calls. There are no limits. If you can place the call on your regular telephone, using your regular long distance company or phone company, then you can place that same call using VoIP. Furthermore, you can take VoIP with you. You can't take your home telephone or business telephone with you when you go somewhere, but you can take VoIP. You can use it anywhere that you can get a broadband connection. This means that you can bring your laptop with you and make telephone calls as needed, without having to use long distance.
There is no doubt about it. VoIP is the calling plan of the future - and it is already available for your use!
